Science fiction fans have been getting some seriously good news when it comes to movies recently. With the revelation that “Tron: Ascension,” which is the third movie in the franchise, is heading into production very soon, hopes were flying that the cast from the second film, “Tron: Legacy,” would embrace the digital world of the Grid and return their roles for another chance.
According to Screen Rant, those hopes and dreams have been fulfilled in two very big cases. Garrett Hedlund will reprise his role as Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde will be returning as Quorra. Wilde’s role in particular could be pretty important given the whole “ascension” meaning, but all of the theories and rumors are so far just speculation. For fans of the franchise, two of the big stars coming back is a huge plus, and the fact that the characters are pretty important ones helps with the overall credibility of the franchise. It would have been all too easy for Wilde and Hedlund to simply walk away from the Grid and never look back considering the mixed reaction to Legacy.
Alexei Beltyukov said that by putting a bit of work into the casting, the producers of “Tron: Ascension” are really pulling out all the stops. Replacing actors is tough on a series, but often it makes financial sense. Keeping the whole Tron mystique alive and well is important to fans, and by taking the mythology seriously, the people behind the scenes are winning points with fans.
