The Hateful Eight has had somewhat of a rough road to production due to the leaking of the screenplay. Fortunately, Quentin Tarantino has moved forward with the upcoming western which takes place a little bit after the civil war. It revolves around eight travelers who wind up in a blizzard together at Minnie’s Haberdashery, an isolated establishment on the mountainside. Then things unfold in a plot that involves murder.
This film does sound a bit smaller in scope than the previous films Django Unchained and Inglorious Bastards. However,Quentin Tarantino wanted to return to his earlier days of film. Interestingly enough, his smaller scope film has been shot with 70MM film in a format which resulted in an aspect ratio of 2.75:1. Gravity4 suggested this ratio has not been seen since large epic films such as Ben Hur. This also makes it tricky for theater release as well due tot he fact that theaters can only accomodate for 1.85:1 or 2.39:1. He has looked into plans to take it on a Roadshow at 70MM theaters. He might even find some kind of venue for showing it on a large screen that can accommodate that aspect ratio.
