One of the biggest worries for any patient suffering from prostate cancer, especially for middle aged men is if they can regain their sexual ability after surgery. This is such a big concern, that most patients shy away from surgery altogether, a fact that more often than not leads to serious depression in the long run.

Luckily, this need not be a concern anymore, as latest technological advances have ensured that one can happily regain full sexual function in just a few months after prostate surgery. The Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique, popularly known as SMART, is a minimally invasive surgical technique that was recently developed by Dr David Samadi, a renowned robotic prostate surgeon in New York.

Using the SMART technique, Dr David Samadi is able to target and remove the cancerous prostates with minimal invasion on the surrounding tissue. This ensures that the urinary sphincter, the endo palvia fascia and all the neurovascular bundles surrounding the affected area are spared during the surgery. This helps to preserve them and ensure their full function even after healing.

The SMART technique surgery, which is usually performed by Dr David Samadi, takes less than two hours to complete. Patients who have undergone the SMART technique surgery have reported over 95% sexual potency after healing from the surgery. The rate in regaining full sexual function is especially higher in younger men. Patients have also reported full urinary continence after undergoing the procedure. The specific target and removal of the cancerous prostate afforded by the SMART Technique has ensured over 89% success rate, with only a small percentage of the patients reporting a recurrence after a year long treatment.

Dr David Samadi holds an MBA from the Stony Brook School of Medicine and a BS in Biochemistry from the same institution. He did postgraduate training in Urology at the Montefiore Medical Centre and proceeded to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for his training in Proctology. He has also completed fellowships in proctology and robotic radical prostatectomy at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Henri Mondor Hospital Creteil respectively.

He is the current Chairman of Urology and Chief of Robotic Surgery of Urology at the Lenox Hill Hospital.

Eric Lefkofsky is a Philanthropist on a Mission

The Lefkofsky Family Foundation (LFF) was created by Liz and Eric Lefkofsky in 2006 as a private charity foundation that helps to support a wide range of initiatives and organizations. The specific purpose of the foundation is to enhance the quality of human life through donations of time and money. For over a decade, now, it has helped countless organizations, and it has been Eric’s desire, along with his wife’s, to focus in on the areas that interest them the most. These areas include the arts and culture, medical advances, educational initiatives and organizations, and basic human rights.

Eric Lefkofksy looks at education and culture and the arts as something that every child should have access to. In 2017, the LFF supported the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago so that it could offer free admission to youth aged 18 years and younger. Just a couple years before Eric and his wife Liz, through their foundation, helped to support high-impact, early team science with a $1.2 million gift that funded six scholars who were working on innovative cures and treatments for a spread of different diseases.

Eric Lefkofsky also loves to help out in the community that he lives in, which is the Chicago area. To do this the LFF has supported different organizations and initiatives in the Chicago area, which include Young Chicago Authors, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, University of Chicago Medicine, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Ideas, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and more. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago who loves to inspire and educate young minds.

Eric Lefkofsky is the co-founder of Tempus and an entrepreneur who has had countless business successes in his lifetime. Tempus, itself, is a technology company that has created an operating system that gives physicians the information they need to combat cancer. The system grants those who care for cancer patients the ability to make real-time decisions based upon large amounts of data. This will surely change the way that cancer is treated.

Aside from Tempus and his Philanthropy, Eric Lefkofksy invests in businesses that look to disrupt their industry. His book, “Accelerated Disruption,” covers how startups can revolutionize their own fields and break into any industry. It is Eric’s lifelong goal to make the things he dreams about a reality.

Eric Lefkofsky was able to raise approximately $70 million to fund this project from New Enterprise Associates and Revolution Growth.

Aside from Groupon and Tempus, Eric Lefkosky has created other highly successful businesses such as InnerWorkings, Lightbank, Mediaocean, Echo Global Logistics, and Uptake. Lifeline Screening is a Proactive Way to Check Your State of Health

Many people fail to have regular checkups with their doctor, so they have no idea of what the state of their health is. If nothing hurts or there is no blood coming from anywhere, they just figure that everything is going to be alright. While that is a nice thought, it could be the farthest thing from the truth.

Many of the deadliest of health problems begin with little or no symptoms such as cancer, artery blockage, liver disease and many other ailments that can result in disability or death if they are not discovered in time.

Lifeline Screening is a testing company that offers the same tests that are regularly ordered by doctors, except in many cases you have to go to a hospital or a screening facility to have the tests completed, and they can be expensive.

Lifeline does the screenings for a modest sum and then makes the results available to you so you can take them to your doctor for further evaluation. This makes it easier for people to have their health checked out and they may well better off for catching some things early before they become a real problem.

The tests consist of three types of screenings, the ultrasound, the finger-stick blood test, and the limited electrocardiogram. The ultrasound is similar to the test that pregnant moms take to discover the sex of the baby, and they can see right into the body and detect clogged arteries and bone density to detect osteoporosis.

The finger stick blood test takes just a few drops of blood and can generate a full blood panel to test cholesterol, blood sugar, and elevated liver enzymes to detect liver disease.

The limited electrocardiogram can detect atrial fibrillation which can be deadly if not corrected in time. A-Fib, as it is also called, can throw off blood clots which can result in a stroke.

The Lifeline screenings are good preventative measures to head off potential problems, and all of the tests are non-invasive and easily available to the patient’s doctor. Learn more:

Eric Lefkofsky’s Success with Tempus

An article, “This Is What’s Missing in the Data-Centric Approach to Cancer,” by Barb Darrow, on discusses the start-up, Tempus. Eric Lefkofsky, a co-founder, believes doctors and research communities need more information collected from past, current, and future cancer patients, in order give the patient better treatment. Mr Lefkofsky has made the connection, through his own wife’s battle with cancer, that clinical information on how a treatment has worked, from one patient to another, is not being shared effectively with researchers, doctors, and other people who may need to know.

Tempus is a company that takes the electronic medical records (EMR) of a patient, creates a clean version, without their personal information, and gives it back to the source. The doctor/hospital is then able to use the information to find patterns and ideas on how their treatments have worked on a variety of different people. Lefkofsky believes that by having patient’s results’ readily available for research, will individualize the possibility for a positive treatment on future patients.

Eric Lefkofsky likes to start new companies and sell them for profit. He has been extremely successful. He is currently co-founder, CEO of Tempus, co-founder, Chairman of Groupon, and co-founder of Uptake Technologies, Mediaocean, Echo, Global Logistics, and Inner Workings. Lefkofsky earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University ofMichigan Law School.
